FAQ

Q: Which desktop mindmapping software do you recommend I buy?

A:We use and recommend Novamind and plan to integrate further with Novamind in the future.

Q: (Version 2.0) How do I import projects?

A:Please follow these steps:

  • Ensure you have updated iBlueSky to version 2 (we strongly recommend exporting all projects via email before updating and using iTunes to download and install the update rather than the on-device App Store). If you aren't sure which version of iBlueSky you have installed, you can check in the About screen, which is accessed vi a button in the lower left of the project list screen.
  • Go to http://www.tenero.co.uk/import
  • Click the Register link and fill in details to create an account.
  • IMPORTANT: Make sure you register using an email address you can access on your iPhone or iPod Touch
  • Check you email for an account activation email.
  • If you don't receive the email, please check your junk email filter
  • Click the link in the email to activate your account.
  • Go to http://www.tenero.co.uk/import and login
  • Click the Browse button, select a Novamind (.nmind), OPML (.opml) or Freemind (.mm) file to import.
  • Enter the "Are you human?" code
  • Click upload
  • Check your email on your iPhone or iPod Touch.
  • You should receive an email containing a link to import your project; touch the link to open iBlueSky and import the project
  • If you don't receive the email, check your junk email filter
  • Note: project email links are only valid for 48 hours after sending (after this time the project is deleted from our servers for security and operational purposes).

Q: (Version 2.0) Why do I see checkerboard patterns temporarily when scrolling?

A:Just like Mobile Safari, iBlueSky renders content on-demand to save memory, allowing a very, very large page size. In previous versions, the page size was limited by the memory available in the device. However, unlike Safari, iBlueSky does not wait until scrolling has stopped before refreshing the screen. We'll be optimising iBlueSky further in future releases to reduce the amount of checkerboarding seen while scrolling.

Q: (Version 2.0) How do I scroll back to the selected branch or root branch?

A:Just tap the status bar at the top of the screen; you'll be scrolled back to the selected branch, or the root branch if not branch is selected.

Q: (Version 2.0) Do notes attached to branches get imported and exported?

A:Yes - where the format supports branch notes. However when importing non-native formats, some desktop applications do not correctly import branch notes. We are working with the vendors in question to resolve this.

Q:Is iBlueSky available for Mac or Windows? Can you port the application to desktop computers?

A:As there are already a number of very well established desktop mindmapping applications, we have decided to integrate with Novamind rather than produce a desktop mindmapping application.

Q: Will my favourite desktop mindmapping application be able to import maps I've made with iBlueSky?

A: iBlueSky currently exports Novamind, PDF, PNG, OPML and Freemind formats.
Most mindmapping applications can import OPML or Freemind formats. If you would like to test compatibility with your desktop mindmapping application before buying iBlueSky, you can download the bundled example project exactly as it is exported from iBlueSky - just extract the ZIP file to obtain the exported files.

Q: Why does my iPhone vibrate sometimes when I drag branches around?

A: If the branch you are dragging (or one of it's sub-branches) touches the edge of the page, the device vibrates to provide a warning.

Q: Why do emailed projects come from projectmailer@tenero.mobi rather than my own email address?

A: Due to restrictions on 3rd party applications on the iPhone, we cannot send email messages with attachments from your phone. To work around this restriction, the email is dispatched by our server instead. This also allows us to add additional export formats without having to update the application on your iPhone or iPod Touch

Q: Are you harvesting email addresses?

A: No - absolutely not. We hate junk email just as much as everyone else.

Q: I used the "Email Project" feature, but the email never arrived. What's wrong?

A: Please check your junk email filter first. If you are sure the email never arrived, please send us an email with the email address you used, the approximate time it was sent (along with your timezone), then we'll look into it and get back to you as soon as possible.

In addition, you may wish to add the address projectmailer@tenero.mobi to your white list/allowed list, as this is the address that projects are mailed from.

Q: What about support for other mobile platforms?

A: Currently we only support iPhone and iPod Touch, but if you'd like to see our products on other platforms, please send us an email, stating the device platform, make and model you have in mind, and we'll take your request into consideration when planning for the future.

Q: Can I get your products in my own language?

A: Currently our products are only localised in English. We hope to add support for other languages soon. If this is important to you, please send us an email and we'll take your request into consideration when reviewing language support in the future.

Q: Why doesn't iBlueSky have feature X?

A:We are always open to feature suggestions and do pay serious attention to every suggestion we receive. However, we prefer to focus on workflow and ease-of-use rather than cramming in superfluous features; iBlueSky is intended to be an effective mobile productivity tool which compliments, rather than replaces desktop mindmapping applications. Adding features is comparatively easy, but making them effective and easy to use on a mobile device is more difficult.
